The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), also known as an enzyme immunoassay (EIA), is used to detect HIV antibodies and antigens in the blood. This is the most common HIV tests use blood to detect HIV infection. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) tests a patient’s blood sample for antibodies.

HIV Drug Resistance Blood Test
This test is only necessary for those that are HIV positive and not responding to treatment. Drug resistance testing is used to determine whether a patient with HIV has a mutated form of the virus that does not respond to antiretroviral therapy (ART).
