A clear first step in checking male fertility
A full routine semen analysis that measures the quality of a semen sample across the parameters that matter for fertility. Careful preparation and timing make the result reliable, so the steps below matter.
No doctor's referral. Best booked for an early morning slot.
How collection works
Book a morning slot
Semen analysis is time-sensitive, so book an early morning appointment and bring a valid form of identification. A copy can be made on site if you need one.
Book a slotCollect your sample
Pick up a sterile container from any branch the day before. Most people produce the sample at home shortly before their slot; a private room is available at our Durban partner laboratory.

A full laboratory semen analysis that measures the quality of a semen sample across the parameters that matter for fertility. From one carefully collected sample.
Routine semen analysis
Routine Semen Analysis. Volume, pH, sperm count, motility, morphology, supravital index, culture and antibodies: the standard measures of semen quality used to assess fertility.
Three steps, no GP needed
Book and pay for a morning slot
Reserve an early morning appointment and bring a valid form of identification. The timing matters, as the sample is delivered to the laboratory soon after collection.
Prepare and collect
Abstain for 3 to 7 days. Collect a sterile container the day before, then produce the whole sample into it, without soaps, water, lubricants or condoms.
Deliver and get results
Bring the sample in within the short window your branch sets, or use the private room at the Durban partner laboratory. Results in 2 to 5 working days.
Who is this for?
Most useful if you are checking fertility, on its own or as part of a wider work-up with your doctor.
Trying to conceive
You and a partner have been trying and want to check semen quality.
A fertility work-up
Your doctor has asked for a semen analysis as part of fertility tests.
After a vasectomy
Checking the result of a vasectomy. Wait at least 8 weeks after the operation before testing.
A baseline
You want a baseline before trying to conceive or before a procedure.
Confirming a result
A repeat analysis to confirm or track an earlier result.
Planning ahead
You want to understand your fertility before making decisions.
What people say
Friendly and competent staff. Both at reception and the nurse. A much simpler process than going through doctors. Thank you ladies.
The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.
Highly highly highly recommend. The experience was painless and the practice was inviting and well kept. The report was extremely detailed and informative and I would have this as top of my list for preventive care.
Amazing experience, highly professional staff. Very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
I cannot recommend Juliette and her team enough, friendly and kind from the get go. Bloods were drawn with minimal discomfort and the labs came back quickly.
Excellent experience at Epicentre. The staff were professional, kind, and took time to explain everything clearly. The facility was clean, booking was easy, and I did not feel rushed.
What this does not do
This is a laboratory measure of semen quality. It is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor, not a diagnosis on its own.
- A single analysis is a snapshot; results vary, so your doctor may ask for a repeat sample a few weeks apart.
- It measures semen quality; it does not, on its own, diagnose the cause of any fertility concern.
- If the initial analysis shows abnormalities and further investigation is needed, additional costs of about R4,000 may apply and are billed separately. Results are released once any additional fees are settled.
- Results are meant to inform a discussion with your doctor or a fertility specialist.
