Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It is a bacterial infection spread through vaginal, oral, or anal sex with someone who has the infection.
A chlamydia test looks for the chlamydia bacteria in a sample of fluid from your body.
This test is a blood test that can detect early herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. HSV is a contagious condition that causes sores around the mouth or genitals. A herpes test can detect early HSV infection by looking for antibodies. Your body produces IgM and IgG antibodies after HSV infection. The IgM test can detect HSV earlier than the IgG test.
After chlamydia, Gonorrhoea is the second most common bacterial STI in both men and women (Wilson, & Wilson, 2019).
Trichomoniasis or Trich is a common infection that can spread through sexual contact. It’s caused by tiny parasitic protozoans. These parasites usually affect the private parts. In women, this means the cervix, bladder, and urethra in women, and in men, the urethra or the tube where urine comes out.
Trichomonas vaginalis is the most common curable sexually transmitted infection both in South Africa and internationally (Mabaso & Abbai, 2021). But South Africa and other sub-Saharan countries has the highest amount of new infections in the world (Mabaso & Abbai, 2021).
