What does the screen cover?
Seventeen targets by PCR, from a urethral swab and a urine sample.
A thorough penile screen. It covers the STIs most worth ruling in or out, plus the bacteria and yeast that can sit behind discharge, discomfort or prostate symptoms.

Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Treponema pallidum, Haemophilus ducreyi, HSV-1, HSV-2, HPV.

How to take your sample at home
It takes about five minutes: the swab, then a urine sample. The instruction sheet in your box shows every step with pictures.
Before you start: don’t pee for at least 1 hour before you collect, and wash your hands before and after.
The urethral swab
- Take the swab out of its tube. Don’t touch the soft tip.
- Insert the swab 2 to 4 cm into the urethra, the opening at the tip of the penis.
- Gently rotate it clockwise for 2 to 3 seconds.
- Put it back in the tube and close the lid firmly. Wash your hands.
The urine sample
- Wash your hands and open the jar, ideally next to the toilet.
- Clean yourself with toilet paper. If you have a vulva, wipe from front to back.
- Start peeing into the toilet, then fill the jar halfway from the middle of the stream.
- Close the lid firmly, then stretch the seal strip tightly around the lid so it can’t leak.

What this test does not do
- HIV, hepatitis B and the standard syphilis test are blood tests, so they are not in this screen. Add all three at a branch for R524.
- Some organisms on this panel can be present without causing problems. Finding one does not always mean you need treatment.
- If you have severe pain, a fever or feel very unwell, see a doctor or go to an emergency unit now rather than waiting for results.
