Below is a breakdown of each test, including its purpose and why testing is important:

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and Vaginal Microbiome Markers
- Atopobium vaginae – Associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV), disrupting vaginal flora.
- Bacterial vaginosis-associated bacteria 2 (BVAB2) – A key bacterium linked to BV overgrowth.
- Escherichia coli O18 – A strain of E. coli that may cause urinary tract infections (UTIs) and vaginal imbalance.
- Gardnerella vaginalis – A common contributor to bacterial vaginosis, leading to discharge and odour.
- Lactobacillus spp – Beneficial bacteria that maintain a healthy vaginal microbiome; low levels indicate imbalance.
- Mobiluncus spp – Bacteria often associated with BV, indicating vaginal flora disruption.
- Mycoplasma genitalium – An STI-causing bacterium linked to urethritis, cervicitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
- Mycoplasma hominis – Normally present in the vagina but can cause infections in some cases.
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae – The bacteria responsible for gonorrhoea, a serious STI.
- Prevotella bivia – A bacterium linked to BV and PID, contributing to vaginal flora imbalance.
- Uncultured Megasphaera spp – A bacterial group associated with bacterial vaginosis.
- Ureaplasma urealyticum – A bacterium found in the urogenital tract, sometimes causing urethritis and fertility issues.
