Where are my results?
Most results are with you inside a week. Here is how long each type takes.
| Test type | Turnaround |
|---|---|
| Blood tests | 2 to 5 working days |
| PCR tests (sexual health, HPV, BV, UTI, gut) | 5 to 7 working days |
| Home test kits (all PCR) | 5 to 7 working days |
Counted from when the laboratory receives your sample, not from the day you tested. Samples that arrive on a Friday usually start processing on the Monday.
It has been longer than that
Check this first
Results are emailed to the address you registered, encrypted. The most common reason people think results have not arrived is that they have, and the email went to spam or promotions.
If you booked under a different name for privacy, that is completely fine. Just remember which name you used.
Then message us
Send us three things and the branch team can find you:
- The name on your booking
- Which branch: Cape Town, Johannesburg or Durban
- Roughly when you tested
They will verify your identity against their records and follow up.
Message us on WhatsAppWe will never ask for your ID number over WhatsApp.
What will I actually receive?
How many reports you get depends on which test you had, and this catches people out.
PCR tests: sexual health, HPV, BV, UTI and gut
A single YourGenes report. There is no separate practitioner version, and nothing is missing. It already carries the organism-level detail and recommendations your doctor needs, written so you can both read it.
Blood wellness panels
A standard laboratory report, which is the one your doctor works from, plus your ODx functional health report written in plain language. We have written guides to understanding your markers and to reading the ODx report.
What if I do not have an email address?
We do not post results, we do not fax them, and we do not read them out over the phone, because we cannot confirm who is listening. If email is not an option for you, we can hold your results at the branch for you to collect. Tell the team when you book.
I have my result. What now?
That depends on what you were tested for, because the route is genuinely different.
A sexual health result
Epicentre is a testing facility. We do not prescribe or treat, anywhere. Not at a branch, not by a doctor on our side, and not over WhatsApp. What we can do is point you at the right next step.
Any of these work, and your YourGenes report has everything the doctor needs:
- Your own GP or clinic. Take the report with you.
- A pharmacy clinic, which can often prescribe for common infections the same day.
- Dr Wendy Dicks, an independent GP who is familiar with our reports and consults online or in person. Her fees are her own and separate from anything you paid us: a virtual consultation is R400, an in-person general consultation is R720. Book her directly. If the virtual call does not suit you, you can ask for it over WhatsApp messaging in the notes when you book.
A functional health result
Your ODx report ranks what needs attention and puts each marker on a plain-language scale, so start there and take it to your own doctor. If you would like a session to go through it, or a referral to someone with the right specialty near you, the branch team can arrange that.
Common questions
How long do results take?
Blood tests take 2 to 5 working days. PCR tests, which covers sexual health, HPV, BV, UTI and gut panels, take 5 to 7 working days. All home test kits are PCR, so they take 5 to 7 working days. The count starts when the laboratory receives your sample, not on the day you tested, so a sample that arrives on a Friday usually starts processing on the Monday.
Can I get my results by phone, post or fax?
No. Results are emailed only, encrypted, to the address you registered with. We don't post or fax results, and we don't read them out over the phone, because we can't verify who is listening. If you don't have an email address, we can hold your results at the branch for you to collect.
Can someone else collect my results?
Only with your explicit permission, arranged in advance with the branch. Your results are yours, and we don't release them to a partner, parent or friend on request. If you want someone else to collect them, tell the branch before you test.
Can you resend results I've lost?
Yes. Message the branch on WhatsApp with the name on your booking, which branch you used and roughly when you tested, and they'll re-send them to your registered email address after verifying your identity from their records.
Can you send my results directly to my doctor?
Yes, if you ask us to. We don't share your results with anyone, including a doctor, unless you tell us to. Send the request to the branch with your doctor's name and email address. You can also simply forward the report yourself, which is usually faster.
I booked under a different name. Is that a problem?
No. People book under a different name for privacy and that's fine. Just tell us which name you used when you get in touch, otherwise the team won't find your record.
Is my result confidential?
Yes. Your results go to you and nobody else. We handle personal information under POPIA, results are emailed encrypted to your registered address, and we don't share them with a partner, employer, medical scheme or doctor unless you ask us to.
Will I still get results over the December closure?
Yes, though they may take a few days longer than usual. We haven't finalised our December dates yet, but we expect to close from around 21 December and reopen on 5 January. Samples already in the laboratory are still processed and results are still emailed.
What if something is detected in my result?
You'll receive the report as normal, and it will say what was found. Epicentre is a testing facility: we don't diagnose, prescribe or treat, so the next step is a doctor. For a sexual health result that usually means your own GP, a clinic, a pharmacy clinic, or an independent doctor familiar with our reports. For a functional health result it's your ODx report plus your own doctor.
Your results are yours. We handle your personal information under POPIA, results are emailed encrypted to the address you registered, and we do not share them with a partner, employer, medical scheme or doctor unless you ask us to.
