Fasting Glucose Test

A fasting blood sugar test is used to measure sugar in your blood. This test is a simple, safe and common way to diagnose prediabetes, diabetes or gestational diabetes. Our nurse will just need to prick your finger or use a needle to draw blood from a vein in your arm. To prepare for this test, don’t eat and only drink water for 8 to 12 hours before the test.

Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)

An ALT test measures the amount of this enzyme in the blood. Proteins called enzymes help the liver break down other proteins, so your body can absorb them more easily. It plays a crucial role in metabolism, the process that turns food into energy. ALT is normally found inside liver cells. However, when your liver is damaged or inflamed, ALT can be released into your bloodstream. This causes serum ALT levels to rise. Many times, an increase in ALT is the first sign of a problem and is elevated before other symptoms start to appear.

Albumin

An albumin blood test gives important information on your liver and kidney function. Albumin is a protein that is found in your blood plasma. Low albumin levels might be the result of kidney disease, liver disease, inflammation or infections. High albumin levels can be caused by dehydration or severe diarrhoea.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)

The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) test measures how much alkaline phosphatase you have in your blood. You may need this test if you’re at risk for a condition that affects your liver.

Bicarbonate Test

This test measures bicarbonate, which is a by-product of your body’s metabolism. The body uses this substance to help keep a normal acid-base (pH) balance. This balance prevents your body from becoming too acid, which can cause many health problems. The lungs and kidneys keep a normal blood pH by removing excess acid.

Bilirubin (Total) Test

This is a blood test that measures the direct and indirect form of bilirubin in the blood. This test is used to find out how well your liver is working. It is often part of a panel of tests that measure liver function. A small amount of bilirubin in your blood is normal, but a high level may be a sign of liver disease.

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)

The blood urea nitrogen (BUN) test reveals important information about how well your kidneys are working. A BUN test measures the amount of urea nitrogen that’s in your blood.

Calcium Test

This test looks for a critical mineral that enables bone health, the functioning of muscles, and the cardiovascular and nervous systems. The main sources of calcium are dietary, but the mineral’s levels in the blood do not normally fluctuate based on diet. Instead, calcium in the blood is usually drawn from being stored in the bones.

Chloride Test

A chloride blood test measures the amount of chloride in your blood. Chloride is a type of electrolyte. Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals that help control the amount of fluids and the balance of acids and bases (pH balance) in your body. Chloride is often measured with other electrolytes to diagnose or monitor conditions.

Creatinine Urine Blood Test

The creatinine blood test measures the level of creatinine in the blood. This test is done to see how well your kidneys are working.

Potassium Test

A potassium test is used to measure the amount of potassium in your blood. Potassium is an electrolyte that’s essential for proper muscle and nerve function. Even minor increases or decreases in the amount of potassium in your blood can result in serious health problems.

Sodium Test

A sodium blood test measures the amount of sodium in your blood. Sodium is a type of electrolyte. Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals. They help control the amount of fluid and the balance of acids and bases (pH balance) in your body. Sodium also helps your nerves and muscles work properly.

Total Protein Test

The total protein test measures the total amount albumin and globulin in your body. It’s used as part of your routine health check-up. It may also be used if you have unexpected weight loss, fatigue, or the symptoms of a kidney or liver disease.

The lab result provided by Epicentre does not provide a diagnosis. Laboratory test results should be taken to a medical practitioner for a diagnosis and treatment.
