What's tested

What does OptiWay test for?

285 food and drink antigens grouped into 13 categories, each measured for IgG sensitivity from a single finger-prick. A Cross-reactive Carbohydrate Determinants (CCD) marker is built in as a false-positive control.

Cereals & Seeds

30

Gluten grains and gluten-free options: wheat, rye, barley, rice, quinoa, oat.

Coffee & Tea

9

Coffee, cocoa, black and green tea, chamomile, peppermint, hibiscus.

Edible Mushrooms

6

Button, oyster, chanterelle, enoki and more.

Egg & Milk

20

Cow, goat, sheep, buffalo and camel milk, cheeses, egg whites and yolks.

Fish & Seafood

38

Common fish plus shellfish: prawn, crab, mussel, squid and others.

Fruits

36

Everyday and less common fruits, stone fruits and citrus.

Legumes

9

Beans, peas, lentils, soy, peanut and more.

Meat

14

Beef, pork, chicken, lamb and game meats.

Novel Foods

21

Spirulina, chia, baobab, alternative proteins and seaweeds.

Nuts

12

Almond, hazelnut, walnut, cashew, macadamia and coconut.

Spices

30

Warming spices, herbs and condiments.

Vegetables

50

Brassicas, nightshades, root vegetables, alliums and leafy greens.

Other

10

Yeast, honey, cane sugar, hops and the CCD internal control.

285 antigens in total. The CCD control helps flag cross-reactive false positives, so a raised result is more likely to be meaningful.

When OptiWay helps

Who is OptiWay for?

Most useful if you have ongoing, low-grade symptoms that you suspect are linked to food, and you want a structured place to start.

Bloating and digestive discomfort

Persistent bloating, wind or an unsettled gut that you cannot pin to one obvious cause.

Fatigue and brain fog

Low energy or foggy thinking that seems to track with what you eat.

Skin flare-ups

Recurring breakouts, eczema or itchy skin that come and go.

Aches and stiffness

Joint aches or general inflammation you would like to investigate.

Planning an elimination diet

A data-led shortlist of foods to trial removing, rather than guessing.

You want a starting point

A structured first step to discuss with a practitioner, not a final answer.

The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.

What OptiWay does not do

OptiWay is a guide for an elimination trial, not a diagnosis. We would rather be upfront about what IgG testing can and cannot tell you.

  • It is not an allergy test. Classic allergy and anaphylaxis are driven by IgE, a different test. If you suspect a true allergy, see a doctor.
  • It does not diagnose coeliac disease, food allergy or any medical condition on its own.
  • Scientific opinion on IgG food sensitivity testing is divided. A raised result reflects exposure and sensitivity, not proof that a food is harmful.
  • It works best as a starting point for a structured elimination trial, ideally with a practitioner, rather than a final answer.
Common questions

Quick answers

OptiWay measures your IgG response to 285 foods across 13 categories, from cereals and dairy to spices, nuts and novel foods, using a finger-prick dried blood spot. It also includes a CCD internal control to flag cross-reactive false positives.
Scientific opinion is divided. A raised IgG result reflects exposure and sensitivity rather than a true allergy. OptiWay is best used as a practical starting point for a structured elimination trial guided by a practitioner, not as a standalone diagnosis.
No. OptiWay measures IgG, linked to delayed sensitivity such as bloating, fatigue or skin changes hours to days after eating. Classic allergy and anaphylaxis are driven by IgE, a different test. If you suspect a true allergy, see a doctor.
No. You can order the OptiWay kit online or have the finger-prick done at any Epicentre branch without a doctor's referral.
Either. The sample is a simple finger-prick dried blood spot. Order the kit to collect it at home, or have it taken at a branch.
OptiWay results take 2 to 4 weeks, as IgG analysis is more involved than a standard blood test. You receive a colour-coded report by food and category.
