What's tested

What does the panel check?

Twenty-one blood markers, building on the essentials with insulin, hormones and a fuller mineral and vitamin profile, all from a single fasting draw.

Our best-value check: a fuller picture than the essentials, with insulin resistance, key hormones and more of the nutrients that affect how you feel.

Blood sugar and metabolism

Glucose (fasting), HbA1c, Insulin (fasting). Blood-sugar control plus insulin, an early marker of how your metabolism is coping.

Kidney, liver and uric acid

U&E and Electrolytes, Uric Acid, LFT Panel. Kidney and liver function, plus uric acid.

Heart and thyroid

Lipogram, TSH, Free T4, Free T3. Cholesterol balance and a fuller thyroid picture.

Minerals, iron and vitamins

Iron, Calcium, Phosphate, Magnesium, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3. Iron, the key minerals and two important vitamins.

Hormones, inflammation and blood

Cortisol (serum), Oestrogen, Testosterone (total), Homocysteine, FBC. Stress and sex hormones, a cardiovascular risk marker and a full blood count.

What you get back

Every result comes with an ODx report

These packages were built around the OptimalDX framework, on the recommendation of the ODx team. With your results you receive an ODx Functional Health Report: rather than only flagging disease, it reads each marker against optimal ranges, so you can see where your health sits on the full spectrum, catch imbalances early and track how your numbers move over time. It turns your results into clear, practical next steps.

The ODx report is included with every non-infection lab test at Epicentre. Sexual health, gut health and parasite tests come with their own specialist reports instead.

Because this package is over R1,500, it also includes a free one-on-one ODx specialist session to walk through your report and build a plan. Optional, with no obligation.

The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.

What this does not do

A broad panel is a snapshot. It flags areas to look at; it does not diagnose disease on its own.

  • Results are a screen, not a diagnosis; values outside range need follow-up with a doctor.
  • Reference ranges vary; read your results with a clinician who knows your history.
  • A normal panel does not rule out every condition; some problems need other tests.
  • Several markers are affected by fasting; results assume you fasted as advised.
  • If you feel unwell or have specific symptoms, see a doctor rather than waiting for a routine panel.
