What does the panel measure?

Your gut microbiome mapped end to end, grouped so you can see the beneficial, core and pathogenic organisms at a glance. From one home-collected sample.

Your gut, by the numbers: this panel uses PCR to identify and measure specific microbes in a small stool sample, from the beneficial bacteria that protect your gut to the pathogens that disrupt it. Collected at home, no clinic visit needed.

Beneficial: Bifidobacteria

Bifidobacterium genus, B. bifidum, B. breve, B. lactis, B. longum. Key probiotic species that support digestion, immunity and a balanced gut.

Beneficial: Lactobacilli

Lactobacillus genus, L. acidophilus, L. gasseri, L. helveticus, L. paracasei, L. plantarum, L. reuteri, L. rhamnosus. Probiotic species that aid digestion, crowd out harmful bacteria and support immunity.

Beneficial: other protective microbes

Akkermansia muciniphila, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Roseburia hominis, Streptococcus thermophilus. Microbes that strengthen the gut barrier and produce butyrate, which helps calm inflammation.

Core microbes

Bacteroides genus, Bacteroides fragilis, Escherichia coli, Prevotella genus. Normally present and usually helpful, but can tip into trouble when the balance is off.

Pathogenic bacteria

Clostridium difficile, Clostridioides difficile, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Campylobacter, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Salmonella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Vibrio, Helicobacter pylori. Bacteria that can drive infection, inflammation or gut imbalance.

Pathogenic E. coli strains

Enteropathogenic (EPEC), enteroaggregative (EAEC), enterotoxigenic (ETEC), Shiga-like (STEC) and enteroinvasive (EIEC / Shigella) E. coli. Strains of E. coli that can cause diarrhoeal illness, including travellers' diarrhoea.

Fungi

Candida albicans. A yeast that can cause problems when it overgrows.

Parasites

Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia. Gut parasites linked to diarrhoeal illness.

What this does not do

This is a screen of your gut microbiome. It identifies and measures organisms, but it is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor, not a diagnosis on its own.

  • Detecting a pathogen does not always mean an active infection; symptoms and results are read together by your doctor.
  • It does not replace a specific stool test your doctor may order for a suspected infection.
  • Microbiome science is still developing; results are best used to guide diet, lifestyle and a plan with a practitioner.
  • Results are meant to inform a discussion with a registered practitioner.
