How many tests does Epicentre offer?
255 individual walk-in lab tests across 30 categories: haematology, STI screening, hormones, thyroid, diabetes, cholesterol, liver, kidney, vitamins, cardiac markers, tumour markers, allergy, autoimmune, drug screening, gut health PCR, respiratory, TB and more. Prices from R50.
Do I need a doctor's referral for blood tests?
No referral is needed if you are paying cash. Walk into any Epicentre branch and request the test you want. If you want to claim through medical aid, your scheme will almost always require a referral first, otherwise the claim is likely to be rejected. Three branches: Cape Town (Observatory), Durban (Hillcrest), Johannesburg (Parktown North).
What is the cheapest test at Epicentre?
A rapid finger-prick glucose test at R50. Other low-cost options include haemoglobin (R64), chloride (R70), lab glucose (R79), ESR (R79) and total cholesterol (R86).
Can I build my own test panel?
Yes. Select individual tests from the full menu to create a custom panel. The total is calculated automatically. You can also choose from pre-built packages on the All Packages page.
Where are Epicentre branches located?
Three branches: Cape Town (24 Lower Main Road, Observatory), Durban (2 Knelsby Avenue, Hillcrest), and Johannesburg (02 7th Avenue, Parktown North). All branches operate Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:00.
How are prices structured?
Prices shown are the practice cash rate, inclusive of 15% VAT. Patients billing to medical aid are charged at the medical aid rate, which is approximately 20% higher. PayFlex (4 interest-free instalments) is available on orders above R1,200. A 10% student discount and a 10% pensioner discount apply to most tests, at 5% on gut health panels. They do not apply to send-away tests such as Optiway Sensitivity.
