What's tested

What does the panel cover?

Five markers covering how your thyroid is working and whether your immune system is involved, from one blood draw.

Beyond TSH alone: by adding the active thyroid hormones and antibodies, this panel can pick up autoimmune thyroid conditions a single TSH test may miss.

Thyroid function

TSH, Free T4, Free T3. The pituitary signal plus the two active thyroid hormones, showing how your thyroid is working.

Thyroid antibodies

Anti-TPO Antibodies, Anti-Thyroglobulin (Tg-Ab). Antibodies that point to autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's and Graves'.

What you get back

Your results come with an ODx report

With this panel you also receive an ODx Functional Health Report, which reads your results against optimal ranges, not just disease ranges, so you can spot imbalances early and track them over time. Because this panel is over R1,500, it also includes a free one-on-one ODx specialist session to walk through your results.

The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.

What this does not do

A thyroid panel is a snapshot. It informs a conversation with your doctor; it does not diagnose a condition on its own.

  • Results are a screen, not a diagnosis; abnormal values need follow-up with a clinician.
  • Some medicines, supplements (including biotin) and illness affect thyroid results; mention them when you discuss results.
  • Antibodies can be present without active disease, and absent in some thyroid conditions.
  • A normal panel does not rule out every thyroid problem; some need other tests or scans.
  • If you feel very unwell, see a doctor rather than waiting for a routine panel.
Common questions

Quick answers

Five markers: TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Anti-TPO Antibodies and Anti-Thyroglobulin (Tg-Ab). It is R1,566, with results in 2 to 5 working days.
A basic test is often just TSH. This panel adds the active hormones (Free T4 and Free T3) and antibodies, which can reveal autoimmune thyroid conditions a TSH-only test may miss.
No fasting is needed. If you take biotin supplements, mention them, as they can affect thyroid results.
No. Book online and visit any branch without a doctor's referral.
Typically 2 to 5 working days, with a clear report you can share with your doctor.
