What's tested

What does the panel measure?

Eight core markers for a yearly health check, covering the main systems in one go. All from one morning, fasted blood draw.

Why a yearly baseline: many health problems start as small imbalances in the basics, your blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid and so on, long before they become a named condition. Checking the same core markers each year lets you and your doctor spot those shifts early and track them over time.

Kidneys and electrolytes

U&E and Electrolytes. How well your kidneys are filtering and how your salt balance sits.

Blood sugar and cholesterol

Fasting Glucose, Lipogram. Your fasting blood sugar with a full cholesterol panel, the core of metabolic and heart health.

Liver

Liver Function Tests (LFT). A full set of liver enzymes and proteins.

Thyroid

TSH. A thyroid check, since it affects energy, weight and mood.

Blood count

Full Blood Count (FBC). Your red cells, white cells and platelets, including anaemia, which is common and easily missed.

Uric acid and vitamin D

Uric Acid, Vitamin D. Uric acid, linked to gout, with vitamin D, a common shortfall affecting energy and bone health.

Optional add-on

Go further with the Comprehensive Women's Health Add-On

Five further markers you can add to the Foundation in the same fasted blood draw, for a closer look where it is medically useful: a fuller thyroid picture, vitamin B12, a muscle and heart enzyme, and a tumour marker some people discuss with their doctor. It is R1,486 as an add-on, so the Foundation plus add-on comes to R3,667 in one visit. CEA is a screening aid your doctor interprets, not a test that confirms or rules out disease on its own. The cards below explain when each is worth considering.

See the add-on details →

CEA (tumour marker)

A tumour marker mainly used to help monitor a known condition on a doctor's advice, rather than as a standalone screen. It is read in context, never on its own.

Free T4 and Free T3

A fuller thyroid picture beyond TSH, worth adding if you have thyroid symptoms or a TSH result your doctor wants to look into more closely.

Vitamin B12

Worth checking if you have ongoing fatigue, eat a mostly plant-based diet, are older, or have an absorption problem, as low B12 affects energy, mood and nerves.

CK-MB (muscle and heart enzyme)

An enzyme that reflects muscle stress and recovery, useful with physically demanding work or training. It is also a cardiac marker, so it is read in context, not as a heart-attack test.

What you get back

Your results come with an ODx report

With this panel you also receive an ODx Functional Health Report, which reads your results against optimal ranges, not just disease ranges, so you can spot imbalances early and track them over time. On orders over R1,500 you also get a free one-on-one session with an ODx specialist to talk through your results.

How it works

Three steps, no GP needed

1

Book a morning slot

Reserve a morning time at your branch, or walk in. No doctor's referral. Come fasted.

2

Quick blood draw

A nurse takes a small sample, just a few minutes. A morning, fasted sample gives the clearest read.

3

Results in 2 to 5 days

A colour-coded report by marker, with a free certificate you can share with your doctor.

The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.

What this does not do

This is a screen of the basics, not a diagnosis. It is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor.

  • Unusual results are followed up with your doctor, who reads them alongside your history.
  • It does not cover every test; your doctor may add others based on your age, history and symptoms.
  • A single set of results is a snapshot, most useful when tracked year on year.
  • Results are meant to inform a discussion with a registered practitioner.
