A fasting blood sugar test is used to measure sugar in your blood. This test is a simple, safe and common way to diagnose prediabetes, diabetes or gestational diabetes. When there is a lot of excess insulin and blood sugar in our blood stream, it signals our body to put that excess sugar in storage. We can store some sugar in our liver and muscles, however, when these are full our body start to store the extra sugar as fat.
This of course starts to cause weight gain. To prepare for this test, don’t eat and only drink water for 8 to 12 hours before the test.
A c-reactive protein test measures the level of c-reactive protein (CRP) in your blood. CRP is a protein made by your liver. It’s sent into your bloodstream in response to inflammation. Inflammation is your body’s way of protecting your tissues if you’ve been injured or have an infection. Inflammation is a common underlying factor in all major diseases — including heart disease, cancer, hypertension, and diabetes — and that it can also cause weight gain and difficulty losing weight.
Blood test used to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anaemia, infection and leukaemia. If the blood cells are not in balance, the body cannot function optimally, which may cause weight gain.
Liver function tests are blood tests used to help diagnose and monitor liver disease or damage. The tests measure the levels of certain enzymes and proteins in your blood. When the liver is overburdened and consequently unable to metabolise nutrients and fats properly, it slows down metabolism, leading to more serious health issues as well as weight gain.
Lipogram (Cholesterol, HDL, TRIG & LDL)
This test (panel) measures the level of the different lipids and lipid-like substances in the blood. Cholesterol and triglycerides are carried in the blood by lipoprotein particles. These particles are also measured and classified according to density. The lipogram is used to help predict the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and determine treatment. The lipogram is used to monitor the effectiveness of and or response to therapy. Being overweight may raise the risk of high cholesterol by causing LDL cholesterol levels to increase and HDL levels to decrease.
Cholesterol Test
High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL)
Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL)
Triglycerides (TRIG) Test
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Test
A thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test is a common blood test used to measure how well the thyroid gland is working. The primary function of the thyroid is to control the speed and other aspects of the metabolism. The thyroid influences metabolic rate, menstrual cycle, heart rate, breathing, muscle strength and body weight.
Urea & Electrolytes and Creatinine (U & E and Creatinine)
A U and E is usually performed to confirm normal kidney function or to exclude a serious imbalance of biochemical salts in the bloodstream. A diverse number of conditions may be detected on the U and E test, as each parameter tested may be high or low. When kidneys do not work well, they do not make enough urine to remove the extra fluid from the body, causing fluid weight gain
A vitamin D blood test measures the level of vitamin D in your blood. Abnormal levels of vitamin D can indicate bone disorders, nutrition problems, organ damage, or other medical conditions. Having inadequate levels of vitamin D may correlate with unintentional weight gain
Recommended Add-On Package
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
This package measures 14 different chemical substances in your blood. It provides important information about your body’s chemical balance and metabolism. This is important, as our metabolism is how the body processes food into energy. Abnormal levels of these substances or combination of them can be a sign of a serious health problem and impact your metabolism.
The lab result provided by Epicentre does not provide a diagnosis. Laboratory test results should be taken to a medical practitioner for a diagnosis and treatment.
