What's tested

What does the panel measure?

Eight core markers that give you and your doctor a clear health baseline before or during a medical weight-management programme. All from one morning, fasted blood draw.

Why a baseline matters: a medical weight-loss programme works best when your thyroid, blood sugar, liver, kidneys and key nutrients are checked first, so anything that needs attention is picked up and your progress can be followed safely with your doctor.

Blood sugar

Fasting Glucose. Your fasting blood sugar, a core part of the metabolic picture.

Cholesterol and lipids

Lipogram. Your full cholesterol panel, including the protective and the harmful fractions.

Thyroid

TSH. A thyroid check, since thyroid function affects metabolism and weight.

Liver and kidneys

Liver Function Tests (LFT), U&E and Creatinine. How your liver and kidneys are doing, useful to know before and during a programme.

Inflammation and blood

CRP, Full Blood Count (FBC). A marker of inflammation, with a full blood count for your overall health.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D. A common shortfall that affects energy, mood and metabolic health.

What you get back

Your results come with an ODx report

With this panel you also receive an ODx Functional Health Report, which reads your results against optimal ranges, not just disease ranges, so you can spot imbalances early and track them over time. On orders over R1,500 you also get a free one-on-one session with an ODx specialist to talk through your results.

How it works

Three steps, no GP needed

1

Book a morning slot

Reserve a morning time at your branch, or walk in. No doctor's referral. Come fasted.

2

Quick blood draw

A nurse takes a small sample, just a few minutes. A morning, fasted sample gives the clearest read.

3

Results in 2 to 5 days

A colour-coded report by marker, with a free certificate you can share with your doctor.

When this helps

Who is this for?

Most useful if you are starting or following a medical weight-management programme and want to look after your health while you do.

Starting a programme

You are about to begin a medical weight-management programme and want a safe baseline.

On a weight-loss medication

You want your liver, kidneys and metabolic markers checked while on treatment.

A metabolic check

You want to understand your blood sugar, cholesterol and thyroid as part of looking after your health.

Your doctor asked for bloods

Your GP or clinician wants baseline bloods before guiding your next step.

Tracking progress

You want to follow how your markers change over time, with your doctor.

Low energy or fatigue

You feel tired or flat and want to see whether your thyroid, vitamin D or blood sugar play a part.

The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.

What this does not do

This is a baseline health screen, not a weight-loss plan or a prescription. It is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor.

  • It does not start, change or replace any treatment; decisions about a weight-management programme are made with a registered practitioner.
  • It does not diagnose any condition on its own; unusual results are followed up with a clinician.
  • Results are a snapshot in time and are most useful when read alongside your history and tracked over time.
  • Any medical weight-management programme should be guided by a registered healthcare practitioner.

Yes. This panel includes fasting glucose and a lipogram, so come in the morning after an overnight fast. Water is fine, and keep to your usual medicines unless your doctor advises otherwise.
It is a baseline and monitoring panel that many people use before or during a medical weight-management programme. It checks the markers a clinician wants to see; it does not start or change any treatment.
