Iron Profile
A profile tests for a range of tests:
Measures how much iron is in your blood
This test measures the amount of the protein transferrin in your blood. When your body’s stores of iron run low, your liver produces more transferrin to get more iron into your blood.
This test measures how much iron is in your blood by looking at ferritin, which is a protein that stores iron.
This test checks the amount of vitamin B-12 in the blood or urine to gauge the body’s overall vitamin B-12 stores. The Vitamin B12 test helps to diagnose or rule out if you may have vitamin B12–deficiency anaemia. Also known as cobalamin deficiency, this is a condition that develops when your body can’t make enough healthy red blood cells because it doesn’t have enough vitamin B12. Your body needs vitamin B12 to make healthy red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Additional Tests On Request
This blood test evaluates your overall health and detects a wide range of disorders, including anaemia, infections and leukaemia.
This test measures the level of folate in the red blood cells and also provides a Hematocrit level. Folate is a vitamin that is needed for creating red blood cells and for DNA synthesis. RBC folate levels are less sensitive to short-term dietary effects than are serum folate levels. Red blood cell folate concentration is considered the most reliable indicator of folate status.
This is a blood test to measure the concentration of folate in the liquid part of your blood, called serum, or in your red blood cells. The concentration in the red blood cells will be higher than in the serum.
