ABO + Rh (Blood Group & Antibodies) Test
This blood test is used to determine your blood group and type. In addition, it also looks if there are antibodies present. This is done to assess if your baby might be at risk of developing anaemia or jaundice, which can happen if your blood group differs in key ways from your baby’s blood type.
Haemoglobin + Iron Serum Levels
This test is used to assess for anaemia. Your blood volume increases during pregnancy. Thus, more iron and vitamins are required to make more red blood cells.
HIV 1,2 ELISA Combi Antibody Test
This is a comprehensive screening test to determine your HIV status. This is a very important test as HIV can be passed to the baby during pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.
This is a screening test for syphilis. This is very important to test for as this bacteria can be passed to the baby during pregnancy through the placenta.
This fasting test is used to screen for gestational diabetes (diabetes that develops throughout the pregnancy).
This is an important screening test for all pregnant women, regardless of whether the mother has been previously vaccinated against hepatitis. This is an important test as hepatitis can be passed through the placental barrier to the baby.
Additional Tests
Checks for immunity to rubella (German measles), as contracting rubella during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects. This test is recommended only if you are experiencing rubella-like symptoms.
