What's tested

What does the screen detect?

The bacteria and yeasts most commonly behind urinary tract infections, identified by PCR from one urine sample, so treatment can be matched to what is actually there.

Pinpoint the cause: rather than guessing, this PCR screen looks for the specific bacteria and Candida yeasts behind UTIs, which helps your doctor choose the right treatment, especially when infections keep coming back.

Bacteria

E. coli, E. faecalis, S. aureus, S. agalactiae. The common bacterial causes of urinary tract infections, including E. coli, by far the most frequent.

Candida (yeast)

C. albicans, C. dubliniensis, C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. lusitaniae, Candida parapsilosis, C. tropicalis. The Candida species that can cause urinary and genital symptoms, important when bacterial tests are clear.

The staff at reception as well as the nurses are friendly and professional. I've also always received results timeously. I would give 10 stars if I could.

What this does not do

This screen identifies the organisms linked to UTIs. It is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor about treatment, not a diagnosis on its own.

  • Detecting an organism is read alongside your symptoms; not every detection needs treatment.
  • If you have a fever, back or side pain, or feel very unwell, seek medical care now rather than waiting for results.
  • It does not replace a urine culture your doctor may order in some cases.
  • Results are meant to inform a discussion with a registered practitioner.
