As children across the world are returning to school during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the safety and effect of vaccines on their young bodies urgently needs to be understood.
What does Pfizer’s Trials Say?
A Pfizer funded randomized trial (a study in which the participants are divided by chance into separate groups that compare different treatments) was done with 48 children between the ages of 5 to 11 years old.
They found that the children that were given both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (consisting of the normal two 10-μg doses) 21 days apart were safe, produced an immune response, and were effective in children 5 to 11 years of age.
What Makes This Study Trustworthy?
✔ This study was randomized, which means the children were chosen at random. This means that Pfizer couldn’t just choose particular children.
✔ The scientists stated they vouched for the accuracy and completeness of the data and for the faithfulness of the trial to the protocol (the published project plan).
✔ There was a placebo group which they could compare their results to. A placebo group means that a group of children who were randomly selected to get a fake vaccine that does not contain the vaccine. A placebo group helps to show what the effect of the vaccine actually is when compared with someone who didn’t actually get the medicine, although they thought they did.

Seven studies have shown that the overall effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine is 96.09%
Their research showed that the current COVID-19 vaccine for children is effective and safe, and is more effective than the adult COVID-19 vaccine. There is a gap between the effectiveness of attenuated and inactivated COVID vaccines, and the effectiveness of inactivated vaccines is the highest. We found that the inactivated vaccine is less painful at the injection site and is more friendly to children and adolescents.
