For many South Africans, whether you are a dependent on your parents’ medical aid, a spouse on a shared policy, or a high-profile individual, the fear of a “paper trail” is the biggest barrier to getting tested.

The moment you hand over your medical aid card at a doctor’s room or a standard pathology lab, you create a digital footprint that you cannot erase.

1. The ICD-10 Code: Every medical claim requires a diagnostic code. For an STI test, this code (e.g., Z11.3) tells the medical scheme exactly what the visit was for.
2. The “Main Member” Statement: At the end of the month, the person who pays the bill receives a statement. They will see the date, the lab’s name, and the cost.
3. The Notification: Many schemes send an immediate SMS to the Main Member when funds are deducted.
4. The Reality: You cannot “hide” a test on a shared policy. If you use the card, the Main Member will know.

To stay completely off the grid, you need to bypass the entire insurance system. Epicentre allows you to do this safely and legally using three layers of anonymity.

Layer 1: The “Alias Option” (No ID Required).

Most labs demand a South African ID or a passport to open a file. We don’t.

• The Policy: You are welcome to use a pseudonym (fake name) when you check in at our branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, or Durban.
• The Mechanism: We assign a unique barcode to your sample. As long as you have the barcode, the name attached to it is irrelevant.
• The Only Requirement: You must provide a valid Email Address. This is the only link between you and your result. We send the PDF report to this email.

Layer 2: Untraceable Payments (Cash or Prepaid)

Paying by bank card can leave a trail on your bank statement. We offer two ways to pay without leaving a digital footprint:

• Prepaid Debit Cards: If you don’t like carrying cash, go to any major supermarket (Checkers, Pick n Pay, Dis-Chem) and buy a Prepaid Visa or Mastercard. Load it with cash at the store. You can use this generic card at our card machines. It works like a bank card but does not link to your personal identity.

Layer 3: Direct Access (No Doctor Referral)

• The Old Way: Visit GP (File created) → Get Script → Visit Lab (File created).

• The Epicentre Way: You walk straight into our lab. You ask for the test you want. We do it. No doctor’s letter is needed, meaning no doctor’s file is created.

• Create a Private Email: If you share an email address with a partner, create a free, temporary Gmail account (e.g., john.doe.safe@gmail.com) just for your results.
• Visit an Epicentre Lab: Walk-In to our Hillcrest, Parktown North, or Cape Town branch. No appointment needed.
• The Check-In: When the nurse asks for your details, simply say: “I would like to test anonymously.” Give your alias and your private email.
• The Result: You will receive your secure PDF report via email. No SMS to your phone, no letter to your house, no claim to your medical aid.
